Description

DefenseWise® is an independent consultancy firm dedicated to support the defense, dual-use & civil weapons industries in their regulatory and compliance challenges, especially in terms of export control.

DefenseWise's mission

In a context of geopolitical fragmentation and regulatory instability, DefenseWise provides added value by legally securing your activities in the sensitive defense, security, and dual-use technology sectors.

1. Legal and technical expertise: DefenseWise provides concrete expertise in:

  • the classification of products and technologies,
  • the determination of applicable authorization regimes,
  • the structuring and submission of license applications,
  • the identification of compliance requirements (or exemptions) related to market access (e.g., weapons proofing/marking, packaging requirements, transport/storage rules, intellectual property, environmental regulations),
  • the implementation of Internal Compliance Programs (ICP), as well as
  • the auditing and remediation of existing frameworks.

This approach optimizes timelines, limits administrative bottlenecks, and reduces exposure to criminal, administrative, and reputational risks.

2. Tailored, pragmatic, and niche approach: Unlike the broad approaches of large consulting firms, DefenseWise focuses exclusively on these sectors, thereby developing genuine niche expertise. The proposed solutions are tailored to each organization, depending on its level of maturity, value chain, existing portfolio, and ambitions. This personalization enables long-term support, maximizes efficiency, and enhances return on investment.

3. Strengthening resilience and strategic autonomy: DefenseWise supports the implementation of concrete measures aimed at securing strategic assets and ensuring operational continuity and compliance. This notably includes mastering European regulatory tools (e.g., tolerated threshold of non-EU components in EDIP projects) and preventing risks related to extraterritoriality (e.g., U.S. ITAR/EAR regulations).

4. Skills transfer and maturity building: DefenseWise goes beyond advisory services: it promotes the autonomy of internal teams through training, awareness-raising, and the development of operational tools (e.g., compliance mappings, decision trees, document/clause templates) to ensure lasting impact. We stand out through innovative and engaging approaches, such as the Export Control Escape Game, designed to enhance knowledge retention, team spirit, and collaboration in conditions close to real-life operational environments.

5. Creating a competitive advantage: By mastering strategic and regulatory risks, clients enhance their credibility with industrial and academic partners, investors, and public authorities. Proactive and well-managed risk governance thus becomes a genuine lever for competitiveness.
